The World's Reaction to Obama's Victory

Senator Obama's victory was celebrated across the world. From his father's village in Kenya, to a city in Japan named Obama to bars in Paris, people rejoiced with the people of America. The global community has embraced this leader that has brought a message of Hope to the American people. The world has also been inspired by his message and celebrates the return of America.

Which America? The America symbolized by the Statue of Liberty in Ellis Island. Here is an excerpt of the The New Colossus,a poem by Emma Lazarus. It is graven on a tablet within the pedestal on which the statue stands.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

America is back.

While the poem is very touching... it's just not practical. However, that said, let the US have all of Africa's poor, tired, homeless masses. :)

Lets just hope that Obama follows through on those promises that he's made. Or were they all empty promises... only time will tell.
